A Hurricane didn’t stop this September couple’s Joyous Wedding day.

September 16th, 2023 was threatened with a significant storm that was enough to dampen anyone’s spirits.

September on Martha’s Vineyard is a sought-after month for weddings. The summer crowds have died down, the weather stays warm, and most stores and restaurants are still open.

The only caveat is that it’s hurricane season, and though New England isn’t a usual landing spot for these storms, they still can cause some serious wind and rain, and for every Islander’s worst nightmare, ferry delays or at worst, cancellations making the island unreachable.

Those fears came to a reality when Hurricane Lee became a storm the whole East Coast started watching. Predicted to be at its worst Friday night, Anna and Alex held steady on their plans for a lunchtime wedding starting at 12pm Saturday.

By the time Saturday rolled around, it looked like the rain would end just about noon time, so the couple decided for the safety of their guests to postpone to a 1pm ceremony start time.

The Venue

When Anna and Alex were deciding where to host their wedding, there was no better spot their Alex’s family home in Chilmark.

Now there were so many memories to make with Anna and her closest family and friends. The joining of two families is one of the most joyous celebrations.

Ceremony

By the time the Ceremony kicked off right about 1pm, the rain had stopped, the benches were dried, and guests took their seats.

The couple decided to have the Groom’s mother, Julie, marry them.

Married at last!

Cocktail Hour

The Mike Benjamin Band provided some New Orleans-style jazz for the cocktail hour. MV Photobus was open and ready for guests to take boatloads of selfies.

Reception

The bride and groom choose to have farm tables with white linen table runners. The couple provided vases to Morning Glory Farm and their team made bud vase arrangements that lined the center of each table.
