What’s a wedding like on Chappy? Read more to find out.
Every local has a tale or two about the Island of Chappaquiddick. 527 feet off the coast of Edgartown, it’s a small island off of Martha’s Vineyard. Accessible only by a ferry that maxes out at three cars making it even more exclusive than it’s neighbor Island of Martha’s Vineyard.
Carolina and Fagner met on the shores of Martha’s Vineyard, through a friend who introduced them. Both of them were living on Martha’s Vineyard and made a home for themselves on Chappy.
Carolina had her heart set on a beautiful and hopefully waterfront ceremony location. The Chappaquiddick Community Center is located about a mile from the ferry on a pond.
The bride got ready at a private home in Katama with her closest family and friends.
The Bride envisioned colorful floral boxes that lined the aisle. Which were later repurposed by the Aubrey Maria Design team to the dance floor at the reception. The Bride and Groom both work in the architecture and construction industry so they made the arbor for their ceremony themselves. Aubrey’s team covered it in florals to match the rest of the decor.
The couple made the beautiful choice of embracing a ‘first look’ moment which granted them an intimate and personal experience to behold each other’s presence before their ceremony unfolded. This choice allowed them to share a serene and heartfelt moment away from the crowd, basking in the joy of seeing one another in all their wedding day splendor.
As the ceremony concluded, vibrant smoke billowed from the ground, creating a stunning backdrop for the newlyweds. The swirling hues added an unexpected magical touch, enveloping the couple in a dreamlike scene. It was a breathtaking finale, an unforgettable moment that beautifully crowned their union.
After the ceremony, guests took the less than 10 minute drive down to the Bride and Groom’s home where signature drinks from Cocktail Caravan were waiting for them. The reception was held under a Sperry tent setup by Big Sky Tents and more floral arrangements by Aubrey and her team.
Up next it was time for the couple to have their first dance.
The bride’s parents who live in Brazil spent some time with the couple via Facetime during the reception.
Then it was time to cut the cake!
Next up, it was time to get the dance party started. With infectious energy, they kicked off the festivities by leading the way onto the dance floor, inspiring everyone to join in the revelry and create unforgettable moments together.
During the reception, there’s a charming tradition where the groom’s tie gets playfully snipped into numerous tiny pieces. These pieces were up for auction to the wedding guests, with bids contributing to the couple’s upcoming honeymoon fund. Typically, this lively auction is led by the groom’s best man or a cherished family member.

Beautiful post! I loved the tie cutting and how they incorporated that fun tradition into their reception.
